Trail Report: February 17 The trails are icy!

Another messy winter storm has left a mixed mess! We got around three inches of snow before it turned to rain and freezing wintery mix! With the drop in temperature, it is very frozen and icy.

Please use caution, there is a good coating of ice everywhere. Make sure you wear some kind of traction and with the high wind warning for the day, bundle up!

Remember your good winter trail etiquette: snowshoers, please don’t walk on the ski tracks!

On winter weekends, Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park rents snowshoes and cross country skis. This happens in the Winter Lodge, which is located across from the bathrooms off of the Camp Saratoga Parking Lot #1 on Scout Road. Rentals are staffed from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm on Saturday and Sundays and for the February Vacation Week.

Snowshoes and cross country skis are available on a first come/first served basis for use at Wilton Wildlife. Last rentals are at 2:00 pm to insure that they are returned by 3:00 pm.

The rental fee for non-members is $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for kids/students. 

For programs that require snowshoes, including children’s or general public environmental education programs, rental fees are covered this year by a grant from the Common Roots Foundation so that anyone that wants to participate in our programs can at no cost! Thank you Common Roots Foundation!!

Our rental cross country skis and boots were generously donated by the Alpine Sport Shop. Skis and repairs to our snowshoes were funded in 2022 by the Ballston Spa National Bank. Additional snowshoes and microspikes were purchased in 2023 with funds from a member item from Carrie Woerner’s office.
